North Las Vegas Elite Sod & Turf provides professional synthetic putting greens in North Las Vegas, NV for residential and commercial properties across the Las Vegas Valley. A synthetic putting green is the one piece of artificial turf we never argue anyone out of, because in a valley with nine-plus months of golf weather and mandatory watering restrictions, a real bentgrass green in a back yard is a fantasy with a maintenance contract attached. We build backyard putting and chipping greens with laser-graded bases, contoured breaks and proper fringe, and they roll true for years without a drop of irrigation. Real greens are a different sport from lawns. A putting surface on live grass is mown at a tenth of an inch or lower, needs daily attention, a specific rootzone profile, and more water and fungicide than most people spend on their whole landscape. Golf courses here run under annual water budgets — the Las Vegas Valley Water District cut course allocations from 6.3 acre-feet per acre to 4 acre-feet effective in 2024, with surcharges above budget — and that is with professional superintendents. A homeowner is not winning that fight in a back yard. Synthetic is not a compromise on a putting green, it is the correct specification. The base is the whole job. We excavate, install and compact a crushed aggregate base in lifts, then laser-grade the surface to the contours you actually want rather than whatever the yard happened to be doing. Breaks get built in deliberately: a single-tier green with a gentle back-to-front fall for a practice surface, or two or three tiers with genuine slope if you want to practise reads. The base has to drain to a defined outlet because caliche will not take the water, and a green that holds a puddle after a monsoon burst will develop a soft spot you can feel through the ball. Surface choice sets speed. Putting turf runs a short, dense, unfilled or lightly sand-filled nylon or polypropylene pile, and the sand infill depth plus the brushing direction is what tunes stimp speed. Faster is not automatically better — a green that runs at tour speed in a 400-square-foot back yard is unplayable and frustrating. We build to the speed you actually putt at and can re-tune it later with infill. Cups get set in proper sleeves so they can be moved, and we generally set four to six positions so the green does not wear a track. Fringe and chipping matter more than people expect. A green with no collar looks like a rug in the grass. We run a longer-pile fringe turf around the perimeter to catch and hold chips, and where the yard allows it we build a chipping approach at a different pile height so short shots behave the way they do on grass instead of skidding. On a rebate conversion, a putting green counts as part of the desert landscape replacement, so a green built as part of a Water Smart Landscapes project can be funded partly by the $5 per square foot the program pays for the grass it replaced. Honest limits: the surface heats up like any synthetic in full sun, and moss-quality realism costs money. Budget for the base, not the carpet.

Materials, equipment and how we do synthetic putting greens
The difference between synthetic putting greens that lasts and synthetic putting greens that gets redone in three years is almost always preparation and materials, not the finish you see on day one. We work with Tifway 419 hybrid Bermuda sod, TifTuf Bermuda, Celebration Bermuda, Midiron Bermuda, spec them to the job instead of to the invoice, and write the material grades into the free estimate so you know exactly what you are buying.
Every North Las Vegas job runs the same way: site walk and measurements, written scope and fixed price, protection of the surrounding area, then the work itself with a daily clean-up. 15+ years of sod installation work in the Las Vegas Valley means we have already met whatever your property is going to throw at us — awkward access, older construction, an HOA with opinions.
