North Las Vegas Elite Sod & Turf provides professional decorative rock & borders in North Las Vegas, NV for residential and commercial properties across the Las Vegas Valley. Decorative rock and borders are what separate a desert landscape from a gravel lot, and in North Las Vegas the difference is almost entirely in the edges and the depth. We install decomposed granite, screened rock, river cobble, rip rap and placed boulders, contained by header board, steel edging, concrete curbing or a poured mow strip so nothing migrates into the lawn, the sidewalk or the neighbour's driveway. Depth first, because it is the spec people get wrong. Granite laid an inch deep shows its base within a year, grows weeds through it, and turns into a dust problem every time the wind picks up. Two inches is the working minimum for a decorative bed and three is better at the edges and anywhere feet or tyres go. Screen size changes the character and the behaviour: three-eighths minus compacts into a firm walkable surface and is what we use on paths and around seating, while three-quarter and one-and-a-half inch rock stays loose, drains fast and reads as a coarser, more natural desert floor. Colour matters more than people expect in this light — a bright Madison gold reads very differently under a July sun than it did under the fluorescent lights at the yard, and we bring samples rather than a brochure. Containment is the whole game. Without a physical edge, granite creeps into turf, cobble ends up in the mower, and the crisp line you paid for is gone in two seasons. Bender board is cheap and fine for gentle bed curves. Steel edging is nearly invisible, holds a line for decades and is what we use where the planting should be the feature. Concrete curbing is continuous, has no joints for Bermuda to creep through and holds up to real water movement, which makes it the right call along a driveway or anywhere runoff concentrates. A poured mow strip between turf and a block wall pays for itself in labour, because otherwise somebody is hand-trimming that same six inches every week for the next decade. Filter fabric gets used selectively and honestly. Under rock where nothing will ever be planted, it slows the rock from working down into the soil. In a planting bed it is a mistake — it blocks organic matter from ever reaching the soil, roots and emitters fight it, and within a few years it is a shredded mat somebody has to pull out. Anyone who tells you fabric stops weeds in a desert bed has not watched what happens when windblown fines settle on top of it and become a seed bed of their own. Pre-emergent does that job. Boulders are the element that makes a conversion look intentional rather than cleared. We place them with a skid steer or a boom, set them buried to roughly a third of their height so they look like they grew there instead of being delivered, group them in odd numbers, and orient the weathered face outward. A dry creek bed built with graded cobble and a couple of anchor boulders does real drainage work during a monsoon burst and looks like landscaping the rest of the year, which is the best kind of feature there is.

Materials, equipment and how we do decorative rock & borders
The difference between decorative rock & borders that lasts and decorative rock & borders that gets redone in three years is almost always preparation and materials, not the finish you see on day one. We work with Tifway 419 hybrid Bermuda sod, TifTuf Bermuda, Celebration Bermuda, Midiron Bermuda, spec them to the job instead of to the invoice, and write the material grades into the free estimate so you know exactly what you are buying.
Every North Las Vegas job runs the same way: site walk and measurements, written scope and fixed price, protection of the surrounding area, then the work itself with a daily clean-up. 15+ years of sod installation work in the Las Vegas Valley means we have already met whatever your property is going to throw at us — awkward access, older construction, an HOA with opinions.
